Hello All,
Well, I finally found a pre-ban lower (Eagle Arms) to start my build project on. It's currently a complete lower, so it's not only a matter of installing new parts, but removing old ones. Rather than start a bijillion posts, I put everything in this one, so sorry in advance for it being so long. I have a general idea of what I want from searching around here, but I was hoping I could get some suggestions for changes, improvements, or places to buy/manufacturers of what I'm looking for. 1. Upper: I don't have many tools, so I want to buy a preassembled upper. I've decided on a 16" bbl with a midlength gas tube. I'd like a chrome bbl, if it doesn't decrease accuracy too much. Don't want the bbl to be too heavy. Flat-top receiver, since I'll be mounting some optics (more later). I don't know much about flash suppressors, but the m16a2 style (closed bottom so it doesn't kick up dirt, and adds some compensation) would be good. A bayolug would be great, solely becasue I know it will upset chuck schumer. Don't know much about chromed bolts or BCGs. I would also like quad rails on the fore-end. I've seen some nice ones on LaRue. I can cover the slots with rail covers, right? I also like long forends (I've seen some that look very short, with long lengths of exposed barrel––more would be better). A front sight won't work (see below), I'm hoping they make uppers without them? Not sure how the whole gas system works in that case. 2. Grip: I like hogue products, and their grip looks great. Would you guys agree? 3. Stock: I definitely want an adjustable stock. Nothing crazy, but maybe a bit nicer than the standard telescoping stock found on new guns. Magpul seems to have a good rep around here. I know there are military and commercial versons of the buffer tube? Will it come with the stock, or do I need to find out what my Eagle Arms is? 4. LPK: it's already a complete lower. Should I replace all the lower parts? The current trigger is so-so, but I don't know how much improvement I can get by installing a new single stage trigger. Is it worth it? Should I consider a two stage? This will be much more of a plinking/short range gun than a precision setup. 5: Sights/optics: here is the tentative plan. I'm hoping you can tell me if it's even feasible. I haven't completely decided between an aimpoint and an EOTECH, but I'm leaning towards the EoTech––I'd like to hear your opinions. Anyway, if I go with the EoTech, I want to put a magnifier behind it, mounted on a flip-to-side/quick disconnect mount, if they make such a thing. I also definitely want fold-down BUIS. I'd like to be able to cowitness the BUIS and EoTech (magnifier flipped out of the way) so that the red dot and sights are actually aligned (not the lower 1/3 setup). Is this possible? Will everything fit/line up? Would I have enough rail space? Hoping someone can comment. OK––-thanks for all the help. I know that's huge, but like I said, didn't want to clog everything up with a billion posts. If you have any suggestions, or can point me toward some more reading, that would be great. Thanks. To my fellow disappointed voters: try not to let yourself get to depressed today. |
