I take it you lost them, or did they just up and leave you?

Parting is such sweet sorrow. Particularly if you take the detent in the noggin.

There is a tool for installing these, you can also make it out of a dowel with a hole drilled through it

Call me old fashioned but I just used a pair of needle nose pliers and a utility knife.

yeah in the video thats all they used was a utility knife, but i bought the tool and it was easy as pie, know that i have the tool i think i could make one.

I myself used a razor blade and thought it was the easiest thing ever...

That being said, I hung a towel up and pointed everything in that direction in the even it did pop out. Then when it hit the towel, I would just look down at the bottom of the towel to find it.

I was using a paint scraper (bit too thick) for my first go around.

Roommate said something or another and I lost focus...***SPROING!***

Found the detent 20' away and the spring roughly 10' away under my desk after an hour of searching.

Box cutter trick worked 2nd time around, though I felt like I imagine a heart surgeon might feel while performing a grueling delicate surgery.

Yeah my carpet is littered with the little buggers.
I thought I finally had the right plan the other day, but sent another flying.

I found that a 1/4" clevis pin works like a charm, without bloody blades laying around.

Ditto the clevis pin.  15 builds and I've yet to send one flying.  As much as this has been talked about I am shocked that there are some people either still ignorant of the method or too stubborn to try the method and still risk losing pins at the least to cutting fingers to  "shooting their eye out" at the worst.

+1..I never needed the tool and have never lost any springs or detents, just use a thin blade to hold it all in place.

Wow!  Good Idea!  I'll have to try that!

Wait!  I was going to make a detent spring tool according to the specs published in the Tech Manual, but I was going to need a drill press to do it right.  Cool!  An excuse to buy another tool!  This clevis pin idea screws that!

#$&*&)@#&#_*()&!@!!!  I did it again!  Installing a MIAD grip a detent shot out, hit the dog and subsequently vanished.

Where can I buy just a handful of detents?

Brownells has them pretty cheap.  Order springs and detents.

Id think people dont do the clevis pin trick enough because when they get their lower and LPK finally united, theres just too much anticipation to drive to the store to get the clevis pin.

On the other hand,  I think if you cant do it with a razor blade you dont need to be installing an LPK in the first place.   At best you're gonna nick up your receiver on some of the other steps.
