What is the method that would be the proper way to remove and replace the floor plate on a USGI style 30 rounder. How do you deal with forming the tabs. Seems to me stuff is going to get bent. I want to replace some springs followers and floor plates and try to upgrade some cheap mags but I want a good job of it. Any good ideas will help because frankly I don't know where to start. |

If they are like the 20 rounders there is a slot in the floorplate that a metal tab is snapped into. Just take a little screwdriver and push in on the tab and slide the floorplate off. One end of the floorplate will be curved up slightly on the end, make sure you push it off so the curved up end is coming off first. You shouldn't have to bend any of the tabs to remove the floorplate. That is if they are like the 20 rounders. To replace just slide it right back on, make sure you start it flat end first and so that the slot lines up with the metal retaining tab. It will just click right in. |

The link shows using a bullet tip on 20 round mags or a screw driver on 30s. In actuality, you can use either on either type. With 20s, the keeper just pushes out of the way and you slide the floorplate off. With 30s, you just lift up on the back end of the floorplate with a punch, a bullet, a screwdriver, etc. until that little lug on the floorplate clears the rear of the mag body. The tabs NEVER get touched. I hope this is helpful. |
