| Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and have just decided to build my first AR from the ground up. I currently own a Rock River .223 for work and a DPMS .308 for hunting prurposes. I want to build an AR in it's entirety starting from a stripped lower, and I want my first build to be very simple and cost efficient. Anyone have any suggestions on the best kits to start this with? |

Del-Ton for a rifle kit, or Model 1 for a pistol kit. That is going to be your most cost efficient method. if your talking about barreling your own upper, then you could use CMMG to get all your parts at a good price and build it up from there. if you are going this route i would recommend getting a good, matching upper for your lower. The barrel it from there and build to suit. *This will undoubtedly add more time and tool costs to your build, but it will also give you a ton of insight into the workings and tweaks of the AR rifle series* if your barreling your own, and using quality manufacturers, you don't really have to majorly worry about headspacing/gauging/etc...for the most part that is saved for when you are using "used" parts, or refitting barrels/uppers...new components from good manufacturers usually are good to go from the beginning. and when you are done, you will know all the mistakes to not make on your first serious/high cost build! just my .02! good luck! |
