I have put together 2 AR and absolutely hate the triggers, heavy pull, not smooth & long stroke. One is from a DPMS LPK and the other is from CMMG.  Both are the standard trigger, nothing special, so I got what I expected/paid for.

I’m looking to replace both with a smooth lighter pull trigger that compares to the feel of a bolt-action rifle.  My uses are basic plinking for one and long range accuracy for the other.  Probably no competition, just fun long range shooting.

So here are my questions:

1. What’s the difference between National Match, SSA, Service, Combat, DMR…triggers?
2. What’s the difference between the Hi Speed and SSA Geissele triggers?  Benefits of one over the other?
3. What a good trigger for my intended needs that of course won’t break the bank?

I have looked at other posts here and found some good info, but my question #1 is a bit more basic than what I have found.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Bill Springfield (www.triggerwork.net) tunes the standard AR triggers for $39.  All the posts here that I've read are happy with his work.  Check out his site.

On the Geissele SSA, have you seen the thread in the Industry forum?  Apparently production of the SSA is "on hold" until they get their new shop set up.  And nobody seems to know when that will happen.

I had not seen this, but from posts here and an email exchange with Steve at Adco, I knew there was going to be a wait for the SSA.  The overwhelming response I have seen and the numerous "it's worth the wait" out there pretty much sealed the deal.  I'll order one and wait...

BUT, I need two so I want to look at others to see which will work better then the ones I have now, so please keep your opinions (productive ones only plz) coming.

Mr. Sparkle's suggestion/post above of Bill Springfield caught my eye as well.  For $39 it's worth a try.  Anyone use his Speed Hammer Modifacation?  Feedback on it?

Thx!

Ok ... FWIW I have a Geissele SSA sitting in a little baggie at home right now.  I'm going to install it (one of these days) into one of my Stag lowers and compare it to my other Stag/Armalite build (which has a RRA NM trigger).  So no actual feedback right now, but expect to have some actual experience with the SSA in a few months.
