I had originally intended to spec each and every piece and scratch build my first rifle.  It seems I can't do it cheaper than just buying a kit less the stripped lower.  I have a couple stripped Double Star lowers already.  How does this build kit look for a starter?

Item Name: 16" Rifle Kit
Item Price: $712.00
Options:
16 Rifle Kit -Barrel:DTI 16" 1x9 Heavy Barrel
16 Rifle Kit / Rifle -Handguards:DPMS Free Float Tube - Vented
Rifle Kit / Rifle -BC:Standard Bolt & Carrier
Rifle Kit / Rifle -Buttstock:Magpul Mil-Spec CTR Buttstock - Black
Rifle Kit / Rifle -Grips:Ergo Sure Grip -Ambi
Rifle Kit / Rifle-Carrying Handle:None
Rifle Kit / Rifle-Flash Hiders:Phantom Flash Hider
Rifle Kit / Rifle-Gas Blocks:Standard A2 Front Sight
Rifle Kit / Rifle-Lower Parts:Lower Parts Kit with Rock River Arms 2 Stage Trigger
Rifle Kit / Rifle-T Handle:Standard Charging Handle
Rifle Kit / Rifle-Uppers:Flat Top Upper with M4 Feed Ramps

FWIW, I have lots of range time on M16's and LEO AR15's, this is my first that I can put in my closet though.

Cheap is not the only way to build an AR.

Del-Ton makes good stuff, but there are fewer issues with Stag kits.

And fewer issues with BCM or LMT uppers than with Stag uppers.

And so on.

Thanks, I'm not going for ultra cheap.  I upgraded almost every catergory so price is not the driving force.  I just realized buying a kit is cheaper than piecing it together for the same products.

BCM, LMT ? could you please translate. They don't seem to coincide with makers who sponsor this forum at the top of the web page. Sorry if that sounds too newbie. I'm also looking for a quality upper for my build.

BCM=Bravo Company Manufacturing or just Bravo Company <----quality uppers & vendor
LMT=Lewis Machine & Tool <----quality uppers & lowers as well as other parts

Thanks warpig8654, sometimes all of these acronyms get confusing.
