Does anyone have any information on the easiest way to generally deal with roll pins?
My question isn't actually related to the AR15, but I thought since the AR15 has roll pins that you guys might be of help.

How do you get a roll pin started without it ballooning outwards as you start to hammer it in?

Roll pin punches. Litle bit of grease on the one end before you start wailing on it. If still too tight you can sand a chamfer to the edge to get it going. If STILL too tight, throw that sucker in some vice grips to squish it down a bit to make it easier (Just don't go Magilla Gorilla nuts on that part)

Ahhh so there is a actual roll pin punch.
Looks like we'll have to find a super small one.

THX man.

If you want to get fancy, you can use roll pin holders to start the pin, then finish it off with a punch.

Here's a handy dandy video from Brownells

This is the smart way to do things.  Makes using roll pins a non-issue.

Midway has a set of two roll pin starters, with different sizes on either end (4 sizes altogether) for $16.  I haven't seen them yet (in transit now) so I can't comment on quality. but the price is right.  I'm not up for spending $45 for Brownell's set.
