He messed up.  He set the torque wrench to 30 lb ft and then put the armourers tool so it was inline with the torque wrench.  He should have either recalculated for the added length from the work to the center of the torque wrench drive or set the armourers tool 90* to the wrench handle.  The way he had it when the torque wrench clicked the nut wasn't torqued to 30 lb ft, it was over.

Proper torque *range* = 30 TO 80 ft/lb.  He didn't mess up.
