i am going to a show tomorrow and need to pick up a mil-spec buffer tube.Is it safe to say that the mil-spec has very sharp peaks on the thread and then flatten out towards the rear of the tube where the commercial tubes the thread stay consistent and then just end. that is what it looks like according to magpul's diagram. i do not want to have to bring calipers to the show or is there any other quick tell.

thanks

Take the calipers to be on the safe side. Or, skip the show & order from a reputable dealer. That's just me. I have noticed less acute thread peaks on mil-specs as you have described. I don't have a commercial tube to compare so I'm curious as well.
