I'm looking for a buttstock for my AR build. I've come across something interesting. There is a H3 buffer, that has 3 tungsten weights. I guess the heavier weight takes the recoil down. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/H3-Carbine-Buffer-p/buffer%20carbine%20h3.htm If I got the heavier buffer and a civillian spec buttstock, would that be better than just going with a milspec tube and buttstock? Thanks. |

the buffer itself has nothing to do with the tube. I run an H2. No reason not to run an H3, many people do and are pleased with the results. Remember we are talking about 3 parts, buffer, buffer tube and spring. The buffer comes in various weights. Normal, H1, H2, H3, 9mm etc. There are two main tubes milspec and commercial. Generally 6 position or 4 position. And for springs there is the normal one and some extra-power, CS types. Get the tube which goes with the stock you want. CTR stocks come for both milspec and commercial. Crane, VLTOR and others use milspec. Many stocks are sold as kits with all the parts. Like a UBR has the tube built in, and then you can run an H3 if you want. The buffer choice has nothing to do with stock choice other than rifle length or carbine length buffer. |

If you are thinking about an H3, just get a 9mm buffer. They are around $15 cheaper. The A1/A2 rifle buffer, H3 buffer and 9mm buffer are very close to the same weight. And yes heavy buffers help with felt recoil. They slow the action down some to help with extraction, muzzle jump and less wear and tear on the bolt. A 16" carbine should have nothing less, in my humble opinion |
