So I broke off one of the tabs on the back of trigger guard on a lower I was building.

I know these can be welded and am looking for a local resource. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what this is going to cost to fix. Also how bad will fixing it damage the finish around the area? Thanks

Welding on a lower is not something I would advise.

You could JB "weld" it.

A new lower would be cheaper.

look into getting a magpul pistol grip with the intergrated trigger guard.  You won't even notice that the tab is broken.

JB Weld it and clean it up as best you can. Then install a Magpul MIAD grip with the built in trigger guard. Otherwise buy a new lower and call it a life lesson learned. Unless its a NFA lower its cheaper to replace than weld up and fix.

Magpul it is. I mainly wanted to salvage it due to its finish being OD. I didn't realize there was a grip with an integrated trigger guard. Thanks for an inexpensive solution to a moment of stupidity.

STOP, there is a thread regarding JB Weld fix, get on the search and see what you can find...

Bull malarky!

Welders across America are laughing at you. We can tig it up and smooth it out so well you can only find the weld with an x ray and we do it everyday.

JB Weld... BAAH!

Or use vise grips with taped jaws (and then finish up tapping with a wood support block)

Either way, the key point is to support that lower ear!

Here is a link to one of my threads from a while back. There was one that went more in depth of the repair but I can't find it.

I started the other thread, and was advised to use JB weld. I got the JB, and also ordered the screw-on modified trigger guard from the EE. I am going to use the JB, then screw on the new guard. I think this will work great, and will let everyone know when I get the new trigger guard.

BIG +1

I had a pre-ban Colt lower that suffered the same mishap.  I had a local gunsmith TIG weld it, clean up the weld and refinish.  While it did cost me about $70.00, I defy anyone to look at the lower and tell that that ear was EVER broken off, looks like new.  While expensive, for this lower at the time, it was money well spent.

Its not that it can't be done, its that it isn't cost effective in many cases to fix it through welding and refinishing. In most cases the repair cost more than a new lower. Prebans in ban states and NFA registered stuff are exceptions. The cheepest option (if you don't mind a minor cosmetic flaw) is JB Weld and MIAD.

Definitely need the support block. This was my first build. I know stupid excuse, I built the 2nd lower I had perfectly after this mess.
