| I’m considering the DPMS two piece free float hand guard in carbine length, but cant picture the two piece idea. Are the hand guards actually in two pieces like the standard hand guards, and if so, how do they attach as apposed to the tubular free floater that screws to the barrel nut. I would like to be able to drill and mount a stud for a sling and a bipod in the future and want to make sure the two piece design will work for this. Thanks. |

The two pieces are the threaded barrel nut and FF tube. Torque the barrel nut on, then thread the FF tube onto the nut. A standard barrel nut wrench usually works. A single piece FF tube usually requires a strap wrench, though DPMS does make a special wrench that allows you to engage the gas tube holes from behind. www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=5595&title=DPMS%20AR-15%20FREE%20FLOAT%20TUBE%20WRENCH EDIT: once you have everything together, you can drill a hole for a stud, but if you take the FF tube off, the hole/stud might not be indexed properly. |
| I just put a DPMS vented ff tube on my 7.62x39 upper. It comes with a nut and a tube.Nut goes on with a standard GI wrench and I used some locktite and a strap wrench for the tube.Tube is machined so well, once tightened you can't tell were the nut and tube meet. |
Yes, the tube is one piece, which threads onto the barrel nut. This requires the removal of the front sight base. Take a look at this: www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=4998&st=181000013&s=11261 The Clark Custom tube glues onto the barrel nut, whereas the DPMS one threads on, but you get the idea. |
+1. The HG is bomber-rock solid and free-floats and attaches in 2 pieces so no FSB removal is needed. Omega Rail -JC |
