I'm building my first AR, and am a little confused about a couple springs. I have two small springs in my lower kit. One is slightly longer, and the last coil or two are bigger than the rest of the spring. In the pictures, it looks like the longer spring is for the trigger assembly. The longer spring will only go into the trigger one way, and the larger coils on the top prevent the disconnector from being able to drop down into the trigger slot. This seems to make it next to impossible to get the holes in the disconnector, and trigger to line up. If I use the smaller spring, that I think is actually for the bolt release plunger, the holes in the trigger and disconnect align perfectly. So does the tapered spring go into the trigger assembly, or the bolt release? Should the spring even be tapered? Like I said, this is my first AR, so I don't want to cause myself problems by putting the right spring in the wrong place.

The spring with one larger diameter coil is the disconnector spring.  using very small needle-nosed pliers, gently rotate the spring clock-wise while pushing it into the recess in the bottom of the trigger channel.  That bottom coil will snap into this shallow round recess.

The cylindrical spring is for the bolt catch plunger.

That makes perfect sense, but I would have never thought of it. Thanks.

Here's a video how-to of a lower being assembled.

It's useful if you haven't finished yet
