I am building my first kit - I have read (a lot) here and across the web about kit quality. Apparantly J&T and Delton are pretty much considered the best of the kits. I have read several posts that berate them (other sites) as "Bottom Feeders" and that the quality is lacking in the "kits". It seems that most of these kits use shaw barrels and their parts are "mil spec". Also, I have seem advertisements of sub MOA on the varmit kits I have been looking at. Do I need to be concerned about the parts quality in these kits? Do these kits really have sub par components? |
Shaw barrels are OK quality about the same as most civilian type rifles, but they aren't anywhere near "milspec" or TDP compliant. They are 4140 CMV. Don't forget a big part of Mil-spec is precise dimensions and quality control for things like rockwell hardness on the FCG and shot peened bolt surfaces. Just becasue a part fits and functions does not mean it is "Mil Spec". I would not worry too much about "mil-spec. just get a reputable brand and stay away from the likes of Blackthorne unless you are a graduate of the WECSOG. |
