i am building a long range prairie dog gun.  i have been used to bolt guns with 1 lb trigger pulls.  after deciding an ar platform rifle will be the tool to exterminate vermin, i am at a loss for the trigger system.  what have been your different experience with drop in systems for ar's?  let's talk prices for these systems too!

Expensive. There are some nice ones for about $200. You will spend anywhere from $150 to about $200 for a good quality one.

I have heard that Bill Springfield can do a good trigger job on your regular FCG. Apparently you just send your FCG parts and he sends them back in less than two weeks. And it cheap. I dont have contact info you might google his name. or somebody else will come along with info.

Bill Springfield is at triggerwork.net. I'd say go with the JP. It's not that much, ~$150 and is one of the best triggers out there. It's not exactly "drop in", but fitting is so easy a blind monkey can do it with a rock. Mine came in at a bit under 3lbs with .5 mm of TOTAL travel pretty evenly distributed between take up and OT. I could have dialed in less, it's just screws, but I wanted combat/SHTF reliable and JP doesn't recommend less due to sear engagement/wear issues. I have lighter, crisper, and shorter triggers on some of my other guns, but I'm pretty pleased with the JP.

Bill will tune your trigger, cut the hammer and install the lightweight JP hammer and trigger springs.  The result will be a 3lb trigger with no creep and a crisp break. All for $35.  Turnaround is less than a week.  Hard to beat that.

I have shot my sons Colt H bar 2 target rifle both before and after with a Jard trigger installed and it's wonderful with no creep and breaks clean ,and it's adjustable to boot.

Also comes in both pin sizes regular and Colt, It's hard to beat in my book.

Thanks for that info and thanks bushflyr for the link.... So if I send him a DPMS standard trigger he can work his magic and make it a 3lb no creep varminator?

Go with Bill, everything else is a ripoff like most AR acc's.

IMO you shouldn't limit yourself to drop-ins.  Either way, wee www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=366464--great tacked thread!  It discusses both drop-in and component systems.

Check out http://www.geissele.com/, http://www.accuracyspeaks.com/ (single-stage) and www.jprifles.com/1.4.8.php.  Take a close look at JP's Complete JP Fire Control Package with over sized anti-walk pins professionally installed in your receiver and return shipped within one week, only: $220 including labor and return ship on your lower assembly. www.jprifles.com/1.4.8.1.php (1/2 way down the page).  It's the best trigger I've personally experienced, and my friends rave about it when they shoot the AR it's in.

Only spend the money if you expect equal returns. Bill is working on two sets for me now and I expect them to do fine on my varmints. If I were getting setup for 600 yards at the Nationals, then the hi-$ would be more in order. IMHO

Bill has done about a dozen triggers for me and the results have always been fantastic. AR 10, AR 15, HK 91 & SKS.  Great communication and fast turn around.  I wish I knew about him before I bought my match triggers for my bolt guns
He is not an Industry Partner so, he can't advertise here.

I have an adjustable 1.5 pound Jard.  Works very well.  Make certain to follow the instructions closely.

I have three trigger groups done by Bill.  Trigger pull dropped to 4.75 pounds for all three.  I will test these further after I Hard Blue the parts.
