I recently picked up a pair of STAG lower receivers.  I outfitted them with all the same brand lower parts and had one with an ACE collapsible stock and the other with an ACE fixed stock.  My first upper was a Noveske N4 Light.  It fit my lower (with the collapsible carbine stock) with a tiny bit of play.  This same lower fit the fixed stock DEAD NUT with NO detectable play. he

How could changing the grip and stock affect upper / lower receiver play?  I’m stumped on this one guys…

I did check the fit back with the other lower and there was some play in that one too.  So I just don’t understand how changing out the grip and fixed stock on my second lower introduced any play.  All griping aside, I have little doubt that using one of those “wedges” would remove any and all play.  But I’m just stumped as to how my second receiver that had NO play with the fixed stock – wound up having some play with the collapsible stock?

Maybe the upper was coming into contact with the receiver extention tube/buffer tube causing it to fit tight.

Now that’s something I hadn’t considered.  I had wondered if the buffer was putting pressure on things but not the buffer tube.

The reason this sounds quite possible in that my carbine buffer tube has a forward protrusion (near the lower portion) but is relieved back around the remaining (upper) circumference.  The rifle-length buffer tube has no “rebate” in its lip around the top (unlike the carbine buffer tube has) so there is definitely more material in that area to potentially make contact.  This suggestion makes perfect sense.

Thanks for your input – I thought I was going crazy or something!
