I have a CMMG 7" SBR upper with a free float rail and I want to change the A2 flash hider out with a Noveske KX3. My question is do I have to remove the barrel to change the flash hider? Is there a way to replace it without removing the barrel? I have the Noveske and a new crush washer. |
| O.K. you CAN use a barrel vice (vice Jaws) to remove the flash hider, but you will have to remove the handguard in order to get the barrel into the jaws. Then you should use a torch and heat the flash hider up nice and hot and that sucker will just spin right off. You could try to apply heat and then see if it will comes off without the vice, but I doubt it, and you will need the torque of the jaws to install the new one anyway. Many manufacturers use loctite on their flash hiders too, so using the torch just eliminates the guess-work. |

I am also trying to remove a flash hider and need some help? mine is what looks like an A2 but is almost 4 inches long and doesn't have any place to put a wrench on it. Does this mean it was pinned? It is on an old A1 upper that came on a RR I bought some time ago. Barrel is approx 11.5 plus the long flash hider. Should I put something through the holes in the flashider to try and turn it off? or just put a pipe wrench to it? I will be replacing the flash suppressor. Thanks |
