im thinking of building my first AR. i wast thinking a double star lower and a Del-ton kit. i have two questions. 1. how to make it legal for california 2. what are teh differences between the four kits i see on del-ton's website |

CA State Law is pretty confusing. Try asking about that issue on the CA Hometown Forum. They also seem to have a stickey thread on the subject. California HTF |

For California you have 2 options for a Centerfire Semi Auto: 1. Magazine Locking Device - 10rd magazine and evil features 2. Gripless (U15 Stock or MonsterMan Grip) - Detachable Magazines but absolutely no evil features Come to www.calguns.net |
can you elaborate on this? |
Please Visit CalGuns Tips for Beginners to California Gun Laws Off List Lower FAQ OLL Assembly Guide The CA Home town forum on this site has a great firearms law primer written by Paul, it's tacked at the top. After you digest that info we can answer any remaining questions. I don't say that to be mean, but to make sure we're on the same sheet of music when we start talking about "Off List Lowers", "Bullet Buttons", "Featureless builds", etc. |

thanks. just read the primer thread. so i can basically buy a double star lower, and the del-ton kit. i can use a pistol grip as long as i have a non detachable mag. and the prince50 or the bullet button will allow me to stay legal but able to take the mag out (while in other states of course). is this correct. i was looking at the del-ton kit with 14.5" barrel and 1.5" flash suppressor. as long as its permanently attached its ok? |
Basically yes. See below regarding the Prince. If you have a non-detachable 10 round magazine you can have all the evil features you want. If you use the Prince lock you have to break open the rifle and top load it. Because if you loosen the screw, then you can remove the mag without a tool which = Assault Weapon. With the Bullet Button, the mag is "attachable" but not "detachable" without the use of tools. So you need a bullet, or similar tool to drop the magazine, but you can slap in a fresh 10 round magazine to reload. It is the better option in my opinion and the one I use. Also, with these compliant builds, you can only use 10 round magazines. If you happen to have magazines that are larger in capacity that you own legally (were owned in CA prior to 2000), you have to use them with a featureless build or in a registered "Assault Weapon". Permanent FH for overall length of 16" is fine. If you do a featureless build it has to be a brake not a flash hider and has to be permanent if the barrel is threaded. The Assault Weapon flowchart on Cal Guns is really a good quick reference. It's in the Tips for Beginners page on Cal Guns. Have fun with your project. |
