I'm putting together a 6 MM PPC upper and got some parts out I bought years ago.  I have an OLY 7.62 bolt and a DPMS carrier assembly.  The bolt is so tight I can only get it to move in the carrier with a pretty good effort hanging onto the bolt and working it in my hands.

A DPMS (current production) 223 bolt slides in and out nicely.

The question is should I polish the "collar" that sets behind the extractor pin?  I think that the parkerizing probably made it a tad tight?

How critical is the matching of this collar and the bore of the carrier?  Could I over polish it? I can run a dremel with a polishing bit  it over the collar.

Thanks,
Greg

Are you using a McFarland 1-piece gas ring?  If so, thats why it's tight.  Either live with it until the ring wears in or replace it with the 3 standard gas rings.

Nope this bolt is 15 years old never out of the package. It has the normal three ring set up.

I suppose the gas rings will eventually wear themselves out through normal use.  If this doesn't comfort you, I guess you can get a new set of gas rings and see what happens.
