I already have a fresh DPMS lower, Magpul target stock.
Looking to build a 20" Heavy brl upper with fluted brl and comp on the end. Match grade.
I'm open to suggestions including triggers and the like. Links with pictures are a plus.
Mounts to be Larue .   I just cant go back to the "darkside"

Ya got me there.
I'm looking for a 5.56 brl 20-24" to make this.  Need not be stainless.
It's for my wife to be able to enjoy the range.  I do tactical shoots with friends but she wont dare go on a range with 3-5 others moving and shooting with live rounds in the sand box.
That scares her.  She thinks she will get shot.
She thought I was nuts until she saw my Armor and plate carrier. (she still thinks I'm nuts) Heck I'm just havin fun!  Serious fun!

So I figured I'd build her a target /varmint rifle. She saw one of the girls at the range puttin down some serious groups at 3 and 500 yds and I swear
I saw her drool!  I'm talking spit on the ground drool!
From 'I dont want to go to the range' to "Wont you build me a target rifle?"
80% of this I got down but who makes the best barrel for a tack driver to fit her specs is a bit fuzzy.

20-24"  Stainless or not, fluted, with a threaded end match grade Heavy.
I need some models to research so speak on up.  I need the help.

There are a lot of great outfits out there selling heavy stainless barrels, but the muzzle device on a bull barrel is a bit unusual.  I will leave that part of the question to others.

However, speaking from experience, I would not go with a 24" barrel unless all you ever want to do with the rifle is shoot from a bench or bipod.  The difference in accuracy, all else being equal is negligible, as is your velocity increase.  A 20" barrel is a lot more comfortable to carry and shoot.

I would even go so far as to suggest an HBAR weight barrel unless you are going to be shooting a LOT of rounds in quick succession.  There are some great stainless fluted medium barrels out there.

just got a jewell trigger and its like brain surgery putting in at first but with the right allen keys and an extremely light setup im in love with the thing. i dont know but i dont think anything comes close to this. and you set it up differently if you change your mind about how heavy or light you want it. i just about tished my pants when i first tried it. at about a pound set trigger the rifle will shoot itself for you.

Several companies make good 20" and 24" heavy barrels.  Compass Lake can turn a barrel for you; I prefer the 1:7 Douglas premium blank.  Prices will run from low to high.  Look for a maker who shows how his barrels shoot, and look for a barrel that comes with a specifically matched bolt to the barrel.  This ensures a tight chamber, not one that is just head spaced properly.  Chrome lining will cost you a tad of accuracy.  Chrome moly (4140) and stainless (416) both shoot about the same, but have different wear patterns.

the jewell was 185 out of kns precision. about 200 shipped. the first stage is set by where you put the trigger spring on the notched disc about 1-3.5 pounds. the further back you set it the higher the poundage. then the sear or second stage is set with an allen key from several ounces to 3.5 pounds. you need 5/64 and .050 allen key and they provide funny tools to help you. the total poundage ranges from 1.4 to 7 mine is around a pound or less. order the small pins .154 unless you have a wierd old colt reciever.

ive seen other triggers for the same or more even 300 dollars, been shopping around for a while and this is what was recomended to me all the time. "buy the jewell, once you try it agianst the others, youll know why you went with the jewell" i love it. been dealing with mil. HK triggers and they are ok or horrendous but i made due now that i have a jewell for my ar project im feeling very spoiled.

hammer cocked

hammer down

note notches on left side, that sets your first stage, the black set screw allen key sets your second stage, the upper right silver allen key set screw sets overtravel

I built a similar rifle, went with the McCormick single stage.  It breaks right around 3.5 pounds, no creep at all.   Not sure what the 2 stage one is like.  Granted it can't be adjusted at all.  The fact that it's a drop in unit makes things so simple.  Just drop it in, stick the pins in and you're ready to go.  I really do like this trigger except that I have to send it in for recall.

As far as barrels, I have a 20" DPMS bull barrel, which wasn't terribly expensive but does shoot quite well, I was getting 1" groups at 50 feet offhand (no small feat with a 13lb, very barrel heavy rifle), haven't gotten a chance to get it outside at real long range from prone.

I've run the gambit of barrels during my 20+ years of High-power competition. Having said that, all my high-powered barrels are Kriegers from Compass Lake.

I have a 1x8 5.56 20inch fluted match grade heavy from J&T.  They make some good stuff but it took me a month to get the upper.

I built a rifle with a Wilson national match medium contour barrel. It has the 1/8 twist and last week out P-dog hunting I was drilling them at 600yds with a harris bipod on the tube. Great barrels. There is no need for a 24" barrel
