| Who makes the best gas piston system? PWS perhaps? Also, will it work with a Larue handguard? I'm not big on the idea of having to send my stuff to them, I wish they could just take the bolt carrier, mod it, and send it back. I hear the gas piston guns are soooo easy to keep clean and are hella reliable. |
No, nothing meets all your criteria. Is this important? ARES - Currently Carbine Length only. Other lengths MAY come online. Uses your Gas Block and is Drop-In LWRC - Carbine Length only. Non convertible. Must send upper to LWRC. PWS - Carbine/Mid/Rifle Lengths available. Uses their Gas Block. Must send upper to certified installer (nearest to PA is JTAC in OK). Adams Arms - Currently Carbine Length only. Other lengths will come online in 2008/9. Uses their Gas Block and is Drop-In. Osprey OPS-416 - Don't know much about it other then it is to be sold through dealers and is a Drop-In unit. |
Adams Arms sounds interesting. I'm just tired of sending stuff in, tired of shipping and being shipped to, that's all |
Adams Arms carbine kit does not fit under a LaRue HG. So no reason why it would in a mid-length version when it does not in a carbine. That leaves PWS and sending your upper to JTAC for the install. Why are you bothering with this, unless you are running your new upper suppressed? |
Nah, no can. never saw the point in canning a round that's cruising at Mach 2.5. I just like the idea of keeping the bolt clean, and having AK-like reliability. With a gas piston, I imagine the gun stays as clean as a bolt-action rifle would. Prety much all the funk blows out the muzzle. |
A piston does not blow all the funk out of the muzzle. Pistons deposit the 'funk' onto the piston/barrel/handguards/gas block. Piston's do deposit less 'funk' onto the BCG than the gas tube does, but do not eliminate it. Use quality parts, do your PMCS, and you'll be fine. Just how long do you think it takes to clean an AR anyway? Using QUIB's cleaning technique of using Odorless Mineral Spirits/CLP, it should not take you much longer than 30 minutes to clean/lubricate your BCG. Haven't you spent enough on this puppy? Just go out and shoot the damn thing already! |
