What are your thought on using the BM carbon upper to build on a Cav lower perhaps with a-1 barrel and Clark carbon fibre FF tube-- for a petite female?

Car,
Hey, I thought I would pitch my $.02 on your Carbon15 build. I currently have a Carbon15 upper that is a Bushy that I am planning on putting together. Only one problem with the Carbon uppers...they need special barrels...only available that I have found from Bushmaster. I talked with a tech at Bushmaster and he explained that they were having feed problems with the carbon uppers, and so the barrels have special cuts in them especially for the carbon uppers. They do have some shiney polished barrels on their website, but the part number he gave me was for a standard 16" barrel with the special cuts for the Carbon upper.

The Part number is: (A BBL-C1516M4FA)

I think he said complete barrel, nut, sights, handguards etc is $279. Be aware that that part number is not listed anywhere in any catalog or online. You have to call Bushmaster to find it. By the way. If you find all of this to bullhockey, please email or IM me so I can just go buy a used barrel and get this thing put together. Hope this helps!

Well can you post a photo of the inside of the recv so I can see what the feed rails look like?  is it something we can shadetree fix--like making m4 cut work with a standard upper.......... I can't imagine that any of the barrel extension deminsions would be any different..

Car,
It will be this weekend, but I will get some pictures of that upper and send them along. It is kind of interesting that you have the same question. I have been sitting on this upper for about six months trying to figure out what to do with it! Maybe we can get some more folks to chime in. Looking at the part number, I wonder if the M4 means M4 ramps? Maybe the tech just thought I was an idiot and used the term "special cuts" to indicate that the barrel had M4 cuts. I dunno, maybe I will call again today and see if I can get a different tech on the phone. I will let you know if I hear something.

Car,
Well, okay...problem solved.
Called Bushmaster and talked to Jim over there. Indeed, the "special cuts" that the other tech was telling me about are M4 feed ramps. Jim said I can use any barrels that have the M4 ramps, but they must be M4 ramped barrels. Also, he said don't use the standard MilSpec torque values on the nut. Their standard procedure is to use the armorers wrench on the barrel nut and go hand tight. Then, tighten TWO TEETH tighter and lineup the gas tube. He said if you go MilSpec torque with a wrench, you can break the receiver. I hope this helps....now, to find a barrel!

Great--you crack yours first and then I'll decide what to do  I want to build on this Cav arms lower and make a fairly light gun-- I trust Bushmaster, but not the other carbon brands------------

I would be interested to know the weight of the C5 compared to a stripped aluminum upper-is it really worth the trouble?-they show a complete carbon M-4 upper for $605 dollars-----

Here's my lite build. A good shooter that makes most trips to the range.

Cav Arms MK II lower and a carbon-15 upper with a cheap BSA red dot.

It weigths in at 5 pounds even, unloaded.

I have talked to bushmaster quite a bit about putting a stock on my carbon pistol and found that every person there has a different story, not very knowledgable people. Until i taked to the right person, and got the truth, seems like they wanted me to buy a whole new lower. Talker to someone ans said yeah it will work, u just have to hold the buffer when u take off the upper.
