| What is the consensus on which chamber is more accurate for larger grain bullets. The Wylde or the 5.56? I have chose to go with a 1-8 twist and need to decide on my chambering. The barrel is going to be a Kreiger stainless 20". I will be looking to handload and use match rounds for the most part. Some flexibility in ammo would be a plus. |

If you are getting a Krieger barrel, they have a "match" 5.56 chamber that will allow you to shoot 5.56 ammo & will be more accurate than a standard .223 chamber. It is Krieger's equivalent to the Wilde chamber. I have two new match rifles built with this chambering. My wife's is fine, but mine starts having cycling problems about 15 rounds after getting a good cleaning. I'm single loading for offhand, with a single shot follower in the magazine. The bolt comes back OK & ejects fine, but about half the shots it doesn't come back quite far enough to lock open. The bolt hangs on the follower, about 3/4 of the way open. I'm not sure what the issue is, but it may be that my chamber is so tight that the Federal XM193 ammo I'm shooting is sticking when the chamber gets a little dirty. The rifles have less than 60 rounds through them, and it could be almost anything. I need to give it a good cleaning again & see if that fixes it, try different ammo, etc.. |
