Even though I carried an M16A1, M16A2 and an M203, this is my first AR. Thanks to everyone on arfcom for info for the build!

CavArms Cav-15 Mk II lower, OD Green
Bushmaster upper, Gov't profile 20" barrel, flat top
CavArms OD green handguards
RRA bolt carrier group
Yankee Hill BUIS
Aimpoint Comp2/M68
Magpul PMag OD Green

Hopefully I'll get to the range in the next few days to try it out. I'm especially interested in the mags--I bought both Pmags (black and OD), and some NHTMG (both 30 and 20). The mags were not very reliable when I was in the Marine Corps. Hopefully these new ones are better.

Thanks! I like it. I can't wait to put some rounds downrange. It should be a good shooter.

Beautiful rifle!  Nice and different from the usual builds you see on here.

Let me know how you like that vertical grip installed on your handguards, will ya?

I just finished building an M4gery for my buddy this evening, and we were discussing putting a vertical grip on handguards.

RANGE REPORT!

I got to the range today. Beautiful day! The range is a 100 yd range, so I sighted in the iron sights at 50 (so it'll be on at 200), then sighted in the Aimpoint at the same distance. Everything was 100% reliable.

I then put the targets out to 100 to see what kind of groups I got.  No benchrest (I'm too cheap to buy one ), just sitting at a table using a hasty sling. I was shooting Sellier & Bellot 55grn FMJ, and I took the Aimpoint off and was just using iron sights. I'm still just more used to iron sights than the Aimpoint. Shooting groups of 5, I was getting 3-4" groups. Part of that was ammo, part was my eyes (they've gotten bad over the past few years). I then shot some TRU ammo (55 grn) that a buddy had given me. It's good stuff! Too bad it's so expensive. My groups went down to 2-3 inches (with the best being about 1 1/2"), and I'm pretty sure if I'd taken my scope I could've gotten it down to 1-2" (I can't see the front sight clear anymore). I'm waiting on higher rings for my scope, that's why I didn't take it. At any rate, not bad for a hasty sling and a chromed barrel. I'll definitely take it!

I always thought that vertical foregrips were just one more thing to hang on the barrel, not really much use---until I used one! For target shooting, I still use the handguard (because you should be relaxed so you don't pull the shot); but for combat shooting and for offhand shooting I like the vertical grip because you can really pull the rifle TIGHT into your shoulder. It may not be for everyone, and it may not be the right thing for all situations; but I like it. Since I first used one about a year ago, I've put one on most of my rifles (AK, FAL, Mini14, etc).

So--good rifle! I'm happy with it! Once again, thanks to all on this forum who've given advice. I read A LOT of threads and gained a bunch of valuable knowledge.

I like my OD AR!
