Hey guys, I'm not really a newb to AR's; military vet, and I have several builds under my belt, but I am completely clueless when it comes to slings. When I was in the USMC we used the M14 type slings with the clamps that allowed you to quickly set it up for shooting, but otherwise they were pretty plain vanilla. I would like a tactical type sling for hunting, that would allow me to carry the rifle in a ready postion but enable me to use my hands for other things besides holding my rifle. I like some of the setups I see on here where the slings have quick-releases on them to allow the user to "wear" the sling, yet quickly detach it from the rifle. I am kinda thinking about a single-point system, but I'm not sure fi that's the way to go. Any of you military/LEO types out there have any suggestions for a good sling system? I'm gonna put it on a 16" M4gery... |

My favorite sling is very simple. I use a quick disconnect swivel on both ends, and a 1.25 inch webbing between them. The back swivel is mounted to the side of the stock, and the front swivel is mounted to the side rear of the rail. This sling is sinple enough to not catch on things, while allowing for a very solid patrol carry, or hands free if transitioning to pistol, etc. I think most of the slings on the market are too busy or complicated. |
| I'm also using the basic leather sling with the little hooks. Suits me fine for now, if I planned on lugging that rifle way out into the woods I might look for something with some neoprene padding, but im not convinced these tactical slings are the way to go. Too many straps and clips to fiddle with imo. |

There's a forum a few down from this one that is titled "slings and accessories" or somethign like that should have some tacked reference threads on different slings. FWIW, the two "hot" slings these days are the Vicker's sling from Blue Force Gear and the VTAC sling from Viking Tactics. Both are standard two point slings but they are designed to be mounted to the side of the rifle so you can let it hang in front and both have a quick-adjust feature that gives you a bunch of slack when needed. |

I like the Viking Tactical VTAC Sling. It is a 2 point sling but offers more adjustability and options than a 3 point. Video |

I second the V TAC sling |
![]() Here's my Blue Force Gear Vickers VCAS two point sling with optional heavy duty push button QR sling swivels The Vickers sling also have a Fastex quick release buckle which could be mounted either at the front or the rear of the sling. The other two popular slings around here are the Viking Tactics VCAS and the Gear Sector GS-2P Carbine Edition two point slings. All of the three slings that I mentioned have QR Fastex buckles, also Viking Tactics and Gear Sector slings will have some excess loose webbing when adjusted (I have also a Viking Tactics-LaRue sling and the loose webbing doesn't bother me), except the Blue Force Gear don't have loose webbing in all its adjustment ranges.
