http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2212/2388725174_141e9994ce_b.jpg Here's my new AR that I built completely from info on this site, First time I've built or owned an AR. RRA stripped lower From Outer limits Firearms @ Lima, Ohio gun show (I buy from them all the time, great guys) LaRue Tactical Low-profile Gas Block From LaRue Tactical (shipped fast. Packed Great!) ARFX Skeleton Buttstock Assembly From Del-Ton (shipped fast) Hogue Standard Soft Rubber Free Float Tube From DPMS (shipped fast and free shipping) Smith Enterprise Vortex Flash Hider Badger Ordnance Tactical Charging handle From Midway USA(shipped fast) RRA EOP upper receiver RRA 1:9 HBAR 5.56 Chamber 20" RRA Lower Parts Kit White Oak Bolt carrier group Tango down Battlegrip Magpul trigger guard From Adco(shipped fast with 4.00 flat shiping charge Great customer service) Millet Scope rings Gander Mountain (WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!) BSA SWEET 223 Bought it off of Ebay What I learned.... My scope. People on ar15.com hate cheap scopes. This one works great for me. I like it. Gander Mountain has horrible customer service in the gun dept unless you look 55 or older. And unless you have two hours to piss away waiting for them you might as well go somewhere else. Good triggers are worth the price. I gotta get one tommorow. Very few places carry EOP uppers. Very few people buy them. I like it. Once I get a scope that I like on a gun I like, it stays on it. Tangodown Grips don't work great with a Magpul trigger guard unless you heat the grip up with a hair dryer to bend the lip around the guard. Adco Firearms has the best customer service ever. I've lived in the area near adco my whole life and did not know they existed! They have been around 13 years. lol. Adco also has a lot of tools that make life easier that I've never seen mentioned in here before. here's two. High Density plastic pivot/takedown punch Makes life easier and I also used it to push in pins flush with the metal. It worked great and I didn't have to worry about a metal punch missing the pin and scratching the metal. Schuster MFG Bolt Catch Punch Flat sided roll pin punch for bolt catch...Neat...check it out. I don't work for Adco but I really like the place. They have a local store in Northwest Ohio and 4.00 flat rate shipping. I used both. Thats it. Great experience building your own AR. Now I gotta get me a new trigger, And a new stripped lower. |

Nice build. It's been a while since I built my last rifle but I have a virgin Stag lower that's waiting for some decisions to be made. One question: How do you like the Hogue FF tube? I haven't ever seen that before. Does the heat have any ill effects on it? You'll have to know how she shoots. |

Thanks guys. I took it to the range but didn't get to the 100 yard one yet. I was following the break-in procedures posted on this site and it started getting late. I was breaking it in and sighting in the scope so its at least close. I gotta go get a two stage trigger. I thought it wouldn't make that much difference because I shot with crappy triggers before. when you go from a cheap one to a nice two stage.....holy crap. HUGE difference. My buddy had a two stage and let me use his. I_H_R - I love the hogue tube. Its aluminum with rubber over it(in the middle). the barrel nut is the first three rings. (smooth, gnarled, then smooth.) tube splits right there. then you just thrad the rest on. Thing is, the barrel nut wrench doesn't work on it. you have to use a strap wrench. Its really solid though. None of it touches the barrel and its wide open in the front. You can buy it for the same price with or without the houge grip for he same price on some sites. votefromrooftops - I really want to build a NM AR So I can shoot in the league out here. This site has got me hooked. |
