I was trying to assemble my stripped DPMS lower, and the back part of the trigger is sticking up too far for the safety to go all the way into the lower. I can get the first part of the safety in if I do some maneuvering, but I can't get it all the way in no matter what. The trigger is just sticking up a bit too far. Has anybody else experienced this? My other lower did not have this problem. The only difference is that I just got this trigger group back from Bill Springfield with a 4lb pull, but I don't see how that would really change the way the trigger sits in the lower. If I sand/grind this part of the trigger down just enough to get the saftey in, will it hurt the trigger or affect the function of the trigger or safety at all? http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/wars1320/IMG_1178edit.jpg |
Yes, I tried it in every position, still the same story. I looked at the trigger a little bit more, and there is a small round protrusion on the bottom of it. I don't remember if this was on my other triggers or not (I put my other lowers together a few weeks ago), but maybe if I just ground that down a little bit it would allow the trigger to sit a little lower. It would only have to be a few thousandths lower for me to get the safety in. |
I just dropped Bill an e-mail. I will wait and see what he says about it. Thanks for the tip. |

as I recall one of the things Bill does is make it so there will be 0 movement in the trigger when the safety is on. Saying the trigger is out of spec is probably true, but more than likely what ever Mr. Springfield is using to do mock ups has a bit more clearance than your reciever. If it absolutely won't fit check with Bill, but if it were me I would take a stone to bump and take it down little by little, but I am sure that Bill knows far more about it than I ever will. |
| Well, Bill is great on communication. I sent him an e-mail last nite at about 10:30 and I had a reply by midnight. Bill said that the protrusion is to eliminate trigger creep. He told me that I should grind down the top part of the trigger I had originally asked about. He said just grind a little bit down at a time until the safety fits in. I will do it at work today. |
