| I just got my CAR A4 from Rock River Arms this week. got it all put t/g on a rra lower reciever and all that good stuff, anywaz... i got a bunch of goodies since i've waited so long for it and one of them was a YHM Phantom 5C2 comp/flash hider. well i got the A2 flash hider that came with the rifle and when i put on the new one it wont line up with the flat non cut out down. and i dont want ot tighten it anymore. i put the upper in a vise with some wood on each side, and use a 3/4 in wrench by hand. i got it to almost line up but i think it seems like it might be to tight if i went anymore kinda thing? and i dont want to screw up my new barrel. it crushed the flat washer half its size so i though maybe iwent around to many times, so i ordered 2 more crush washers from YHM. put the one of the new crush washers on and tightened the comp/hider up just with my hand and the flat part the needs to face down come out to be about 11 o clock looking from the from front of the barrel ( with the barrel facing me) that means it has to go 3/4 of the way around the line up how its supposed to be? im just worried that i might have hurt my barrel b/c thats how it was the first time i tried it and i just used a hand small 3/4 in wrench and got it like a a 1/8 in from being where its supposed to be. or does it just take that much to tighten it down?? i know it hard to explain over the computer. im sorry. it just got tight quick just putting on by hand?? so is my barrel still fine sine i only went 3/4 of the way more after it was finger tight? what do i need to do? |

I have never used them, but I understand that peel washers work great for muzzle devices that need to be indexed. It's essentially a washer made up of very thin slices that can be peeled off to change the thickness of the stack-up. As far as torque, I think as tight as you can comfortably reef on a 3/4 combination wrench should be ok, unless you are a gorrilla. Don't pull till your veins pop, but a fair amount of torque is ok... ETA: After re-reading your question, it's normal for it to get much harder to turn once you start crushing the washer. It's a stiff ring of springy steel and is not supposed to flatten easily. It's this resistance that makes it difficult for the muzzle device to unscrew. |
