correct me if im wrong but i looks like the 7.62 is the cheapest rifle cal to shoot there are tons of surplus out there while the 5.56 surplus is non existant. how do the range and acuracy of the 7.62 and 5.56 compare?

A Model 1 7.62x39 upper is $460 with BCG; mine has been flawless through ~1500 rounds so far and it's easily one of my favorite ARs.

.45 ACP is doable, too, if hunting down Uzi mags doesn't wear down your enthusiasm.

You left off the single shot 50BMG uppers that also fit an AR lower.

What is all needed for the 7.62x39 conversion. Obviosly the upper...Do you need new mags.

Barrel, Bolt, and C-Products 7.62x39 mags, they should have 30rds out real soon!

There is also the 6.5 MPC and more info on it HERE.

From defensereview.com:
So, why the 6.5 MPC instead of the 6.8 SPC? Ease and cost of conversion (weapons conversion), ammo capacity, and ammo weight (ammo carry capacity at a given load weight). The 6.5 MPC utilizes standard AR-15/M16/M4/M4A1 magazines and bolts, and will function in both the SOPMOD M4/M4A1 Carbine and belt-fed FN M249 SAW/LMG, provided you switch out the barrel(s). No further modification is reportedly necessary. Mag capacity for the 6.5mm MPC is 30 rounds (although you might still want to down-load it to 28, as many do with 5.56mm ammo for reliability purposes).

Evertthing on it is different because that would be an AR-10

Upper, mags, barrel, bolt, lower, etc.

7.62x39 doesn't get built on an ar-10 body... it get's built on an ar-15 body.

You're not confusing it with 7.62x51 are you?

Sharpshooter, I have THREE 7.62x39 uppers for my AR15, I think you are referring to 7.62x51(308) now those are AR10s.
