I am planning a MK12 Mod 1 clone build.  I was planning on collecting the parts and assembling the upper myself (this would be my second build).

It seems that many people in a similar position choose to buy a pre-assembled upper from a excellent source like ADCO, Denny's, etc.   My question is will accuracy or reliability suffer from building myself?  Obviously I don't have the experience of a quality vendor, but I would like to build this myself for both the savings and the knowledge.  That said, even though I am a obsessed with research and very meticulous, it would be a shame to spend a good deal of money on great parts and be disappointed in the end with mediocre accuracy.

Thanks!

Build it yourself.  If you spend the money on the barrel, trigger, scope, and scope mount it will be a shooter.  You will save some cash so you can afford some nice match ammo.  I was wrestling the same questions and did it my self.

ETA: Here is my SPRish build

Nice Rifle!  Thanks for the info.  Assuming quality parts, does anyone have any opinions on a specific step or technique that has a particular affect on accuracy?

That forearm looks like a Larue to me.

Build it yourself.  The absolute most critical item for accuracy is the barrel.  Accuracy rests with three things: barrel, bullet, brass, in that order.  Buy yourself a high quality barrel, preferably with a specifically matched bolt to that barrel.  Enjoy it, and have fun.  There is nothing like hitting where you aim, repeatedly.

both; i'd get a nice cloned upper from one of the dealers in the EE (ADCO, MSTN, etc) and build the lower
