On Saturday I assembled my 1st lower. For anyone considering it, save yourself the $25 and do it. It was pretty easy. (Thanks Falarak, btw) After I finished, I did the trigger function test. Unless I misunderstood, the hammer should lock back after being released, and with the trigger still being held. Well, it didn't. My 1st thought was I was going to have a full auto mag dump. When I checked my factory Colt, it's the same. Does my comprehension need some fine tuning? |
| If you want to know if your disconnector is working. Slap un upper on. pull back the charging handle and let go. The rifle is now cocked. Pull the trigger and don't relese it. Pull the charging handle back again while keeping pressure on the trigger and release the charging handle. Now slowly release the trigger. You should hear/feel the disconnector relese it's hold on the Hammer. And the trigger nose catch the hammer notch. Now to explain how to check proper disconnector timing without visual aids is impossible for me. Maybe someone else can chime in? And oh ya while a improperly or non functioning disconnector may cause a full mag dump. More likely you'll get a double or short burst than a jam. And if the wrong person is watching at the range. You get busted for making an illegal machine gun. Sometime's it's just not worth saving 25 buck's. Derrick Martin's book The guide to AR 15 accuracy goes into this in depth. Another good read is Patrick Sweeny The AR 15 volume 1 and 2. Hope I helped |
