I read that this is the proper way to function check an AR15:

Pull the charging handle to the rear and release. Place the selector lever on safe. Pull the trigger to the rear, the hammer should not fall. Place the selector lever on fire pull the trigger to the rear and hold. The hammer should fall. While holding the trigger to the rear, pull the charging handle to the rear and release. Release the trigger and pull it to the rear again. The hammer should fall.

My AR15 does this however if I place the trigger on safe, pull and hold the trigger and then release the safety while holding the trigger the hammer will fall.

Is it supposed to do this?

PS. I still need my BUIS and Free Floating Rail otherwise I would post pics.

If I understand correctly, the selector switch is moved to "fire" while you are pulling the trigger and the hammer falls.  If this is correct, then it seems to work exactly as designed. The procedure you have highlighted is the functions check; if if passes those tests then it if functioning correctly.  Kinda seems like you are making it more difficult than need be.

Probably.
It's my first AR15 and I just want to make sure it functions correctly.

If someone with a Bought AR15 was to tell me their Colt does the same thing that mine does when you old the trigger and switch from safe to fire I may feel better.

You may be right though that I am making a mountain out of a mole hill.

You will not be able to put the selector back to "safe" unless the hammer is cocked.  You MIGHT be able to if you try hard enough, but that would NOT be a good idea!

Enjoy you new rifle and BRD!

I understand that.
Putting the safety selector on safe without the hammer cocked back cannot be done.
What I am saying is:

1. Cock the Hammer
2. Put the selector on Safe.
3. Pull and hold the trigger.
4. While holding the trigger; flip the selector to fire.

When I do this the hammer falls.

Just think of it this way. You are putting the weapon on kill and the trigger is pulled. It is supposed to go bang.

Normal.

Hammer is held back by sear on trigger, not by disconnecter in that condition
Moving the safety to fire only allows the trigger to be pulled far enough back to release the sear.
