I'm going to put a CTR on a new build and I'm wondering if there is any difference in the commercial version compared to the milspec? Is one any better than the other?
I know that the comm. version comes with buttpad. I have yet to get a buffer tube so I'm not forced to go one way or the other but I need to decide which way to go.
Thanks for any info.

the only practical difference is the size tube they fit on.

you can get the buttpad for the milspec version.

Best deal I've seen if you haven't bought anything yet.

I would go mil-spec because most stocks are made for mil-spec tubes. I have only seen a couple online vendors that sell commercial buffer tubes and stocks(that doesn't include the CTR)

not an expert but i believe the comm version is slightly longer do to a spacer because of the back of the comm buffer tuber... im sure someone will correct me if im mistaken

Get the mil spec version if you still have to buy the receiver extension. That way when you decide to try some of the other kewl stocks you'll be ready

"Q: What is the difference between the Mil-Spec and the Commercial Receiver Extensions ('buffer tube')? Who uses what?
A: The commercial tubes are slightly larger in diameter where the stock slides, but slightly smaller in diameter when it screws into the receiver. Either can be installed on standard lowers, with the Mil-Spec one actually having the stronger interface (more surface area of the threads engage the receiver).

Mil-Spec ( 1.148" outer diameter): Colt, LMT, CMT (Stag, S&W, CMMG), VLTOR
Commercial (1.168" outer diameter): Everyone Else (Bushmaster, RRA, DPMS, Olympic, etc.)"
