I just finished my first lower the other day.  All went well, didn't even have any parts left over.  Anyway, did some test firing today and found that the trigger or disconnect or something was hanging up occasionally.  Fire 3 rounds, pull trigger, nothing, pull it again a time or two, it would reset and bang.  Might fire 10 more rounds then stick again.  Did I do something wrong?  The kit was I believe a DPMS with standard trigger.

Suggestions?  Help?

Sometime down the road I'll put a better trigger in it, just wanted to wait a while.

Thanks for your help.

First, make sure that  the selector clicks into place at both safe and fire.  If it isn't clicking into place then it could be moving out of fire during recoil.

1. Remove any magazine.

2. Cycle the bolt to ensure that the chamber is clear and to ensure that the hammer is cocked.

3. Make sure the safety is set to fire and pull the trigger.  You should feel and hear the hammer being released and hitting the firing pin.

4. Keep the trigger pulled to the rear and cycle the bolt to cock the hammer.

5. Slowly release the hammer.  The trigger should stay pressed against your finger as you release it and you should feel and hear a click when the disconnector releases the hammer.

6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 until the problem occurs.  If you can't reproduce it with dry firing then go back to the range and focus on the operation of the weapon.  With every shot, hold the trigger to the rear after each shot and make sure you hear the disconnector release when you ease up on the trigger.

If the problem occurs during step 5 then the disconnector is the issue.  If the disconnector releases fine then there is something wrong with the interface between the trigger and hammer.   Once you know where the problem is, make sure everything is installed correctly and if it isn't then replace the parts in question.
