| I am going to purchase an action block soon and wanted to see which ones people here are using. |
| Are you talking about a block that clamps the receiver to barrel up an upper? I guess I still prefer the old fashioned barrel blocks. We have several A2s we use for the classes that were rebarreled using the receiver blocks and a fair number of them have their windage adjustment ran over to one side or the other. I've barreled up several M-16 and AR-15s using the barrel blocks and have never had that problem with those rifles. Coincidence perhaps? Maybe, but I'm going to stick with what works. Oh, as far as what kind of receiver blocks I've seen in the CATM shops, they're Brownells blocks that come with the insert that replaces the bolt to prevent crushing the receiver. |
I have this one-![]() I have used the crap out of it. It's well made and sturdy. You cannot go wrong with it. Brownell's action block |

I've got one of these and at first I thought that it wouldn't support the upper as well as the clamshell type but the upper fits onto it very snugly and is supported from the inside. I don't think that you would go wrong with either. www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=510 |
+1 for the DPMS Claw! 6 builld, countless rebarrelings and still running good. In fact it handled perfectly an insanely tight RRA 9mm bbl nut removal with no damage or twist whatsoever to the upper receiver. Put a wood piece betwwen the flat top and the vice and make sure the vice is good quality and you will have no problems. |
I Dremeled out the front of my Brownell's one for my LaRue rail. It only took about 10 minutes to do. |
IMO, this is the only way to go. The clamshell type sucks in comparision IMO because... 1. The DPMS version will work with any upper that will work on an AR15. This is not true with the clamshell type. 2. The clamshell type can (and probably will) mark up an upper unless it is modified. 3. The clamshell type will not work with rails like the LaRue unless modified. Basically the clamsheel type has a lot of needed modifications and limitations that the DPMS type doesn't have but offers no advanatges over the DPMS version. I've built a number of uppers using the DPMS version and I can tell you it works great. |

Get the PRI. www.pri-mounts.com It's metal. It works for AR15's and flip it for AR10s....at least the one I have does that. It won't get in the way when you're doing rail mounts either. Also get the FLipper from DPMS for light work..especially for working on the stock...it's great. |
