How do I find a local FFL dealer to have a stripped receiver sent to.  I am new to my area and I was wondering if anybody could help.  I would think that the local dealers I know about would not be to keen on the idea of me buying something from someone else and using there store for essentially just the paperwork.  I have never done this before so any help would be appreciated.

I am in the Grand Rapids Michigan area.

Thanks in advance.

You can ask in the Hometown forum for Michigan here or just call some of the gun dealers and ask about transfering a lower. Some don't care if you buy it somewhere else (and they don't normally carry it) and some are real pricks about it. Forget about the big FFL box stores and try the smaller true gunshops. Good luck.

Gunbroker.com also has a list of transfer dealers HERE. I counted at least 2 or 3.

Here is 4 links via the Anvil arms page to find an FFL dealer. But call the people first and ask cause these lists are rarely updated and some info is old.

Also Anvil Arms is a great company to work with. Free laser engraving on lowers purchased through them.

i was in the same position as you like a month ago and i just had to figure it out on my own. it isn't as painful as it sounds. most gunshops will do transfers for a fee, all you've gotta do is ask. my local place does it for $20. some places more, some less. call around to your local shops (for a list, start with the phone book, perhaps?) or recommendations from around arfcom. most shops are used to doing it and they are making money, so don't feel bad.

just for clarification:
we'll call the "dealer" the guy you are ordering your lower from.
we'll call the "shop" the store with an FFL where the lower will be shipped.

basically what will happen is, you will buy your lower from the dealer with your card or money order or however you want to do it. the dealer will need a copy of an FFL'd shop to ship it to. some online dealers have a list of FFLs already on file by area. if they don't already have one on file, you will need to call your shop or go in and have them fax a copy of the shop's FFL to the lower dealer. get the fax number from the dealer to make it as easy as possible. some places, like anvil arms, have a cover sheet they want faxed with the FFL. it should be on their website. if it isn't, email them for a copy.

the order all this is done in:
1. Find a dealer and confirm they will do firearm xfers. inquire about cost.
2. call the dealer and express your intent to purchase. (this is best done by phone as they can answer any questions, btw)
3. they will probably take your order and wait for the FFL to be faxed over. if not, you will need to fax the FFL first, then place the order. either way, call them first and tell them you want to order and they will tell you what to do. you will pay for the lower and the shipping to the shop.
4. call/go to shop and give them fax number for dealer, tell them you'd like to have a firearm transfered from the dealer. they will fax FFL over.
5. (optional) call dealer and confirm receipt of FFL and order.
6. wait anxiously for new lower to arrive at shop (shop should call you when it arrives)hinking.gif
7. go to shop
8. fill out paperwork for brady bunch and the FBI and await your approval.hop

hope this helps

also, if you're still shopping. check out anvil arms. they really seem to have their shit together, are reasonably priced, and offer free engraving. see details on their website.
