Ok, 1. I have had more than one person tell me to build my AR-15. Not buy it. 2. Can someone give me a link, to a list of EVERYTHING I need to build it. From the smallest pin to a barrel 3. Do parts come in sets? or do you have to order each and every pin by itself? 3. Where do I get parts from and whos parts to I want who should I stay away from? Is there a specific bolt or trigger or whatever that I should get or is every thing kind of the same? 4.Do you need to use all the same brand? Or are parts interchangable? Strict in insturction is needed. (Note: Yes, I have read the "Build an AR-15 For dummies" post....It was to complicated.) Thx |

The link is AR15.com under build. Perhaps the problem is you expect it to be more difficult than it actually is and therefore think it is complicated. All you need is a kit (try Delton or Model1sales, you can customize them quite a bit). In addition to a kit you need a stripped lower receiver (the part considered a firearm and needing to be transferred using an FFL). Then a mag and rounds and you are ready to go to the range (I have actually assembled some at the range, it is that simple). With the exception of Colt all mil-spec parts should be compatible. Even if you want to further customize your AR it is typically cheaper to get the kit and then replace parts than it would be to purchase everything individually. I'm sure this is the start of a long thread about things covered in the tacked threads but I will try to help as much as I can as long as I am online (got kids to feed and put to bed right now). |

I reccomend J&T distributing's kits. See the link at the top of the page? Kits come with every thing you need except the lower reciever. The upper comes pre-assembled making the task very simple. It's also usually cheaper than trying to piece together all the different parts yourself. Print out the building instuctions found on this site, sit down with everything you need and go slow. If you find any problems post again. Help will be on the way shortly. |

3 manufacturers you want to stay away from: Vulcan/Hesse/Blackthorne Everything else should be interchangeable *with the exception of some Colt products.* If you are absolutely set on "building" one....then this is the route I would suggest: Buy a "kit" from from one of our board sponsors. (Delton, J&T, Legal Transfers).....theres model 1 sales also. Buy a stripped lower from the Equipment Exchange. Get a local gunshop (FFL) to accept shipment of the lower. This will cost you anywhere from $15-$30. The Upper should come complete.(so you wont have to assemble the upper) The "kit" you buy should come with a lower parts kit(LPK). Put the LPK into the lower using the guide at the top. Snap your complete lower to the complete upper....and wa-lah. BUT FIRST. DO MORE RESEARCH. EVERTHING YOU WOULD WANT TO KNOW HAS BEEN ASKED BEFORE, SO LOOK IT UP AND LEARN. |
| My blackthorne and vulcan kits are just fine but required a little more work than the rest. Sure the kits come with everything minus the stripped lower and a mag. And don't go buying more than you need, using the tacked forums you can find methods for doing the entire builds using regular tools (I am particularly fond of the visegrip pin method). |

The kits come with a complete upper half and the parts you need, except for a receiver, to build the bottom half You don't really need this, but if you are overwhelmed buy it www.amazon.com/Complete-Assembly-Guide-AR-15-Vol/dp/1888722126/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196994936&sr=8-1 I'd say buy your first one and build the next one |
Buy your first and build the next one. It is the smartest way to go :D It doesnt make sense to try to build a weapon youre not even familiar with. At the very least, you should be able to strip it and put it back together without following instructions before you go messing around with building. Buying a "Kit" that is a complete upper with a stripped lower + a parts kit doesnt make any sense. All you are doing is putting the parts in the lower. The whole point of building one is so you can customize your rifle, be proud that YOU put together YOUR rifle, and know that it was done correctly. If something fails, and you assembled the whole upper, you have the tools and the knowledge to fix it. Buying a complete upper with a lower "kit" does not give this satisfaction :D |
| order a complete kit and assemble it yourself, the first one i did i was a little intimidated as well, i think i worked myself up believing it was going to be much harder than it really turned out to be. the kits from people like del-ton and j & t come with the uppers already assembled, the lower is really not difficult to assemble. i would suggest that you read everything here that is available, and do not hesitate to ask questions along the way no mater how stupid you feel the question is. you will find that the people here are more than willing to help |

Hmm. I'll also chime in and say buy your first one as well. If you like you can buy the complete upper and complete lower separately to get the set of features you like. If you found the "build tutorial for dummies" intimidating perhaps a complete gun will be the best start. I bought one complete first and started building once I saw how simple it was. |

I had never even held an AR15/M16 when I ordered a kit then went down and bought a stripped lower. (I did hold one when I went in to buy the stripped lower) It took me about an hour to put the lower together, I managed to get the trigger and hammer springs in wrong, but straightened them out quickly. If you can follow simple instructions, and can put together a model, then you can do it. If you get frustrated, walk away and try again later. pardon the cliche' but "It is so easy a caveman could do it." |

I'm not sure if there are any issues with ordering gun parts from the States and sent to Slovakia, and by the way welcome to ARFcom, but before ordering parts, check if it is legal to import a stripped receiver from the US to your location. I also recommend J&T (an icon is at the top of this page) as they are very helpful and will answer all emails. Their kits are great and they carry excellent, inexpensive receivers (lowers.) |
