I currently have Bushmaster in 6.8 SPC caliber with a 16" barrel and the carbine length handguards. I want to make some modifications and I think they will all be straight forward without any hidden issues, but I would like to ask for input first. The rifle is used almost exclusively for hunting. I really want a longer sight radius and an adjustable FSB that will allow me to get an exact center mechanical zero on the rear windage. Reading some of the most recent dissipator threads has got me to thinking along those lines. My barrel is .750 under the current sight and is also that same diameter out towards the FS. Is this just simple as removing the FSB, install a low profile gas block (any recomendations?), reuse the current gas tube, install an adjustable FSB (Armalite??) at the correct location and put on rifle length handguards? I do use the sling quite a bit in my shooting and have given some thought to a DCM type free floating handguard set. Will they fit over a low profile gas tube? Thanks in advance. |

a couple potential problems: 1st, i dont think that most low pro gas blocks will even work w/ std HGs--a big enough FF tube might be best and easier imo another idea, you could use a std FSB, shave off the sight pillars/post, and simply use the gas block portion--that MIGHT fit under a std HG set, which also might have to be modified to fit the modified FSB as to installing your front sight, do you want to use a std FSB or a gas block w/ raile--either way, iti'll have to be pinned or screwed on properly (pinning would be more stable) or, if you went w/ the low prof GB, FF tube, get the extended rails (Rifle or 13.0, etc) and just attach a railed mounted front sight hope that kinda helps |
| Yes, the clearance on the gas block with standard (or DCM type) HG's is what I am worried about. I know Bushmaster does with their Dissapator, I just don't know how. I would like a standard type FSB that is adjustable, not a rail or flip up type. I am aware that Armalite makes one, but I am open to any knowledge. Thanks again. |
