I am have been looking for a new target rifle.  A couple of friends talked me in to going with a AR system.  I have been browsing the site or a few days. and have answered some questions and acquired a few new ones.

Rifle will be used for paper puching and occassional vermin.  Only thing I have decided on is a WOA Match or Varmint 26" Barrel in SS.  It sounds like they make a good barrel, price is reasonable, and they are just up the road from me.

Questions

1 Upper.  Would I be better off getting a complete Upper and Barrel combination from WOA, or build it up my self?  Does anyone know whose uppers they use?  Does any one have one from them?

2 Lower.   Any recomendations.  Looking  for a quality lower, Don't really care whose logo is on the side most all of them look like s#!t,  I would pay extra for no logo or custom.  Was thinking about RRA but they are showing a 3-4 month backlog, and I would like to get the project under way.  Is RRA worth the wait?

3. Trigger.  Looking for a match trigger,  This is where I am the least clear.  Single stage?, Double stage?, Chip Mccormick?  and on and on.  As I said above I don't plan to take it over the river and thru the woods, so I am leaning to a light or adjustbale trigger.

Planning on a Leuopold scope to top it all off, but that is for another discussion

Thanks in Advance

1st off, welcome to the site

2nd, i'd suggest reading, checking out all the tacked threads for info (generally AR FAQs) and more ideas; use your 'search' feature--it helps

a to your questions, i'd consider weight--how much of a factor is this? budget?

generally, i'd take a WOA bbl anytime; h/w, other varmint setups already complete can be had for a very nice price imo--i'd consider a RRA Varminter (its wilson bbls are some of the best for the price, very accurate) or even a DPMS varminter

other good bbls for the price: shaw, oly arms, krieger (expesive, but good)

generally, i'd not recommend a newbie to ARs to bulid, esp thier own uppers; uppers require a little more knowhow, work, tools (armory wrench, blocks, etc) and can involve some prior 1st hand knowledge on the AR system (namely, installing the bbl, indexing, etc)

so, if this is your 1st AR, i'd suggest you opt for a complete upper; lowers are relatively easy to build, so if you have any mechanical knowhow, you can assemble it w/ no problems and few tools

this is an imp thread:
www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782

as to lowers, just about any lower will work--you can find many for under $100 (Stag, superior arms, LAR, MEGA, etc); just make sure its forged Al (7075-T i believe) to spec
avoid cast and carbon lowers/parts

RRAs tend to have a nicer fit and finish imo; h/w, as long as the lower is in spec and holds the parts correctly, thats about all its needed for...

check out the EE/Ind board--LOTS of great dealers, most who have stuff in stock (incluidng RRA lowesr); Mooney's, Global Tac, Delton, ADCO, leagal transfers, Rainier, PKFirearms, CMMG and BCUSA are the ones that stick out in my mind

as to triggers, well, the stock single stage probably will not be the best for your purposese (stock, its ~6.5-9lb on the pull, gritty sometimes too)

for the price, the RRA 2-stage is tough to beat--check out ADCO's WOA tuned 2 stages or improved RRA 2 stages for the price (my choice for the price)

other ok triggers i've heard: timney and JPs

pricier triggers, but worth it: Giessel and KAC

another option is to check out mr bill springfield in the EE--he does trigger work, and imo, its well worth his price (~$30 for single stages and 2 stages--eliminates most creep, lightens pull, and breaks clean)

get good ammo--remember, some bbls tend to prefer some loads vs others; this will also go into deciding twist, as diff varmint sizes need diff weights/bullets designs....overall, i'd consider a 1-9 or 1-8

good luck, i hope this helped

I have a friend here in town that was a Armorer in the army for 5 years,  I spoke with him, says he cand build m-16 in his sleep, and a AR will be no problem, and he is willing to help me with the build, if I run into problems.

Thanks for the info

cool; then, depending on your budget and time you want to spend on it, a WOA is GTG
