Anyone have any pictures of an AR converted to a left side cocker?  Specs?

Thanks!

Are you talking about a side charger?

Check out spikes tactical.  There's other manufactures who make side chargers but I don't remember exactly who does.

edit.  for pics there's already a bunch in the SBR tacked pic thread.  Also look in the pistol caliber tacked pic thread

Does Spikes make a side charger in 5.56? I thought he only did them in 9mm.

I have only seen the side cocker on Fulton Armory's Site:

I imagine the price keeps people from buying them. They do look nice though, especially if you can get a BCG without the FA notches.

eta: didn't see the part where you said left side. Sorry . This one is right side.

If you are going to make a new upper that deletes the forward assist and has a cut out for the side cocking charging handle, why would you leave the original charging handle in place? That seams odd to me.

It probably keeps the gas from shooting out the back and into the shooter's face.

I under stand that problem and you wouldn't want a big hole back there....but if you are makeing a new upper with all the mods why wouldnt you machine the upper to be closed off up there instead of leaving it open and filling it with a useless charging handle.

can this be done to a regular upper?  i know it says that its "reinforced"  but there isnt much pressure on the upper, and there s not much material removed.

Here is a place that has one that does left or right side charging.

I think he does but I'm not 100% sure.  I do recall seeing a fellow from the UK on here that had a side charging 5.56 and I thought it was Spikes.  That was a while ago though.  I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I don't have pics I can post but I have a DPMS side charging upper that I used to build my BOLT ACTION 300 Whisper Pistol Upper with.  NOTE, here in PA I can not hunt with a semiauto but my straight Pull Bolt action pistol is legal!

The one I have uses a FAL style charging handle and it really works great for my needs as I can cycle the pistol with my left hand while my right hand stays on the pistol grip.

Here is a pic of the receiver I am using:

They seem to sell them here:

EDIT:

Here is another option (same idea)

Thats nice! Do you get any gas blowing back in your face through the hole for the side charger?

EDT: They dont have any info on their site! Any body know anything about them? Maybe some more pictures?

I don't, but remember mine is a Bolt Action so the action does not have any gas comming back as my upper does not have a gas port or a gas tube

I have 2 of the american spirit arms 223/5.56 side charging uppers. one is build in a 20" SPR and the the other is waiting on the arrival of my 9mm can so I can use it one my 9mm SBR. I know the ASA has a high price tag on them....but I love mine. not having to lift my head to charge it is really sweet. I may oneday sell the other parts of these two rifles, but i'll keep the side chargers.

The above picture with the bolt on the right side mounter onto the carrier looks like it is a DPMS low pro upper milled out. this is why the charging handle is still there. they are just modifying an existing upper receiver verses have one custome made to there specs.
