How about an opinion on an upper. I'm stuck between the VLTOR and LMT. I hear good things about LMT but I haven't heard anything about the VLTOR. I want the versatility of changing calibers quickly. I been tryin to navigate around the site but get stuck checkin out all the sweet set-ups in hear and next thing ya know it's 3:30 in the morning, soo I figure i might ask what you guys think. Thanks

Good things that both have.

Top notch quality control, both are innovative companies, both are nice people to deal with. In otherwords niehter is the wrong choice, it just depends on what your priorities are on this build

Now, details of each unit.

VLTOR VIS

+Lightweight
+Easy barrel installation
+Takes standard AR barrels

-Not a quick change barrel design, simply a barrel that is much easier to install than a normal AR.
-Some find the 'forearm's width to be a bit too wide (this is subjective of course)

LMT MRP

+True Quick change barrels
+Potential for upgrading to Piston drive if you choose (soon)
+Multi calibre

-Little heavier than the VIS
-some do not like the Quck change design (again a subjective point)
-Propriatary barrels

Negative for both.

pricier than a traditionally built upper and forearm.
both tie you to the OEM for barrel mounting hardware. VLTOR the barrel nut and wrench, LMT the bbl extension and hardware.

I, not the shop, own a VIS 3 and will be picking up and MRP this winter. I weighed the pros and cons and decided they are worth it, do the same and see if dropping the $ is worth the feature for you.

I believe you may have helped me decide. I was leaning towards LMT as i took my local gunsmiths LMT 6.8 out on a hunting trip and was very impressed. He swears by them but i was looking for more opinions. Soo , with the vis you can't go with the gas piston?

Nope, not GP for the VIS.

How does anyone feel about the RRA lower parts with 2 stage trigger assembly?Or maybe some others to check out. I'm going with an Anvil arms lower, stripped and attempting my first build.

The strip lower really DONT MATTER

RRA parts are not on par with the LMT MRP upper your getting. Many complaints.

Other quality lower options are Colt, Sun Devil, BCM. If you're building a :Serious Weapon" skip the 2 stage trigger. They're for sniping, varmints and paper IMHO...and they cost an arm and a leg for good ones. Again...too many reported problems with the RRA triggers.
