I've never done it and wanted to know how to get started. I just want to get rid of some scratches on my barrel.

What do I need and how do I do it?

Thanks!

You will need to remove the barrel from the upper, it would also be nice to pull the FSB and barrel nut off but you could do it as an assembly. You will want to bead or sand blast the barrel. I've always used fine sand and had good luck. I'm always careful not to touch the bare metal with my bare hands and get it contaminated.

I have a old LP fireplace burner that I built a stand for and then had a stainless tank made to fit. I use Brownells manganese phosphate mixed to their instructions. I use a cheap automotive temp gauge to measure the temp of the solution. I run the burner off of a LP grill tank.

Here is the setup:

A Kimber I parked.

Comp1911,

That Kimber looks really nice.  I really like the greyish/greenish parkerizing.

Why get rid of em? Those are trophy's man! Yer just gonna get some new ones as soon as you re-finish it right?  Seriously though, it bugs me too seeing any defects with as much as these things cost to begin with. Please post pics when the jobs done. And thanks to 1911 as well for the pic and info. Good luck

BTW Einstien, is that the YH can adapter? Looks nice.
