Hi all I tried to search but didnt come up with anything. I am doing the hammer assembly right now putting together a lower receiver from scratch, and one of the function check says # Hammer will fall when trigger is pressed. does this mean, when the hammer is not locked down (up right), and i press the trigger, the hammer should fall down to lock on the disconnector? cuz this is not happening to me, if the hammer is up right, my trigger doesnt do anything. this worries me also cuz doesnt that mean i have to cock the gun every time i fire?? i thought its semi-automatic? help please! thanks! |

With out an upper receiver to do a full function check, your limited to: 1) Cock the hammer and place the weapon on SAFE. Attempt to pull the trigger. The hammer should not fall. 2) Place the safety on FIRE. Place your thumb over the top of the hammer and pull the trigger. The hammer should fall. Keep pressure on the hammer with your thumb to prevent the hammer from striking the bolt catch or lower receiver. This can cause damage if not prevented. 3) Pull the hammer back. It should lock back in place, ready for the next trigger pull. Place on SAFE or repeat step 2 leaving the hammer up. ETA: In your case, after you pull the trigger and the hammer falls, if you pull the trigger again nothing should happen. The AR15 is a gas operated, semi-automatic weapon. The first round is fired when the hammer falls from pulling the trigger. The rest of the cycle to extract, eject and load a fresh round from the magazine comes from the gas operation. “Hammer falls” means that when you pull the trigger the hammer falls on the firing pin. Just like my explanation above. |
