How's everybody doin' tonight? Great I hope... I have a strange question.....now that I've built a couple of damn nice AR's I think I would like to build my all time favorite piece.....a HK MP5! Has anyone in our community seen or heard of kits or parts or chopped up MP5's that could be used in a new build of one? Don't get me wrong....I ain't jumping ship....just trying to outfit mine better! hey What are your thought on this? Thanks for all the support! |
| you couldn't make a true MP5 from a new kit, since the MP5 would be classified as a machine gun. I don't ever recall seeing a kit, but if you really wanted to build an semi auto MP5 replica, then the only possibility I could think of to get a parts kit would be to purchase a post sample MP5, have it sent to your class 3 dealer, and have him torch cut the receiver to ATF specs. You would then need to find a receiver for your parts. Plus you have the worry of making it 922 compliant by using US made parts. Honestly, that is a hell of a lot of work to make it. IMO you would be better off buying an HK 94 or clone. |

If you think building an AR was a "big ass challenge" then you probably aren't up to the task of building an MP5. You will need a welder and a press, for starters. ETA: just buy yourself a HK94. Find a DOJ trade in gun if you can, SBR it and get it refinished when you have the barrel cut down. |

Thanks for the link......way cool! h....maybe I think admiting that something I did was a challenge is a good thing.....let's see your home built lower....do you even have one...could you produce a working AR from a "paperweight"? I did and Mine work! Wow a TIG and a press.....sounds like the stuff in my garage already...hock.gif |
You asked the question, you got some answers. And you never said that you built a lower out of a blank. If you can do that then a MP5/94 will be in you skill level. Check herewww.gunbroker.com/ to see some kits. (search HK parts)

If you had said that you built your AR from a 0% forging in the first post, I would have responded differently. Most people who talk about "building" an AR here mean they put a lower parts kit in a stripped lower and maybe screwed on a barrel nut. Obviously you're not one of them. |

Just a little something to get the blood pumping............. href=http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/5881/mp51pv8.th.jpg http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/1721/mp52ks4.th.jpg http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/2302/mp53su4.th.jpg This was an HK 94. Now it's an MP5! German barrel and full auto lowers. All German parts and re-stamped to MP5. It's also SBR so I can move my lowers to my MP5k, G3, 93 and 51. Mike |
