| How difficult is this to do? It appears to be as simple as using a punch. What size punch? Does the pin only insert from the top? The pin is hollow and looks fragile, can it be reused? |

A caveman can do it. You can reuse the pin, but for the cost I'd replace it. The pin is a roll pin, split or spring pin. Pick a name they all will work. spring pins |
| It is easy to do. I think it uses a 1/16" punch - I don't remember sizes too well but I do know it's the smallest punch I have. I don't think it is directional. The pin is reusable. To make installation easier, I don't punch the pin all the way out. When I get close, I give it a small taps until it comes out. |
What he said. Yes, 1/16" punch. If you are real gentle, you don't have to drive the pin all the way out. You can drive the pin JUST until the latch comes out, line up the new using the punch then drive the pin back in. |

My suggestion and just to be safe on the side when tapping out the pin I would reccomend putting some type of support under the charging handle such a block of wood with a hole drilled in it larger than the pin. The pin should be directly over the small hole in the block while tapping the pin out., |

I made a little "slave pin" and a pin starter punch for this job. You install the spring and latch with the slave pin. Then drive the slave pin out with the roll pin while holding it with the pin starter punch. I also made a simple little wood block that has a hole in the right place. These two little things make this a much easier job. |
