I want to build a 6.5 Grendel upper.
I need to know if a standard receiver can be used to build one.
I plan on using a Stag lefty receiver.
I've been told I need a left handed barrel for a left handed receiver. Can a barrel be modified for this? I thought you just needed a left handed barrel extension.
But, I don't know and that's why I'm asking!
Also, which bolt can be used/modified. I'm sure I can use a 5.56 bolt carrier from Stag, and I know there isn't a 6.5 lefty bolt so I'll have to modify either a 5.56 or a 6.8 bolt from Stag.
I'm sure custom stuff is available, but I was hoping on keeping the upper relatively low cost.

I have never heard of a left-handed barrel before. I think Stag used regular barrels, just reversed the upper and bolt.  Also, I don't think a 5.56 bolt would work for modification, since the extractor and ejector would not be where it needs to be. The 6.8 bolt might work, though.

Use a 7.62x39 bolt from any supplier. 6.5 grendel uses the same parent case as 7.62x39. I got mine from Del-ton. AR15barrels.com has them as well.

A standard 5.56/.223 lower will work just fine.

Sorry, I cannot help with the left hand issue. Those nuns never let us use our left hands for anything. They made everyone right handed by force.

Your problem is the left handed bolt.
You might be able to get someone to open up a 6.8 bolt.
BUT after all I've seen on the 6.5 none AA bolt issues (one issue enough for me). I'm not sure that a good plan. Note I am not a metal expert nor a machinist.

Go to www.65grendel.com/forum/ and ask your question there. I do know bad thing have happened when people modify 762x39 bolts.

A few years back, the biggest problem for me was getting just a barrel, never mind the left handed bolt.  Nobody at the time would sell me just a 6.5 barrel.  The only way to get one was to buy a complete upper.  Things may have changed some since then, but I haven't had the urge to look into it since then.
