Okay, I'm getting really frustrated. I'm in the process of putting together a DoubleStar lower with a kit from J&T. I know that the pivot pin detent & spring can be one of the hardest things to install, but sheesh! I even went and bought the "installation tool" and can't seem to get it to work. Previously I put together a Bushmaster lower with one of their kits and while it was tricky, it wasn't anything like this. (I'm just happy that J&T throws in an extra detent and spring in their kit.) Can anybody offer me any insight, hints, or a clue-by-4 upside my head on this one? |

I'm assuming you are talking about the front pin. It's actually easy to install withthe right tool. If you have a piece of bar stock or plastic rod, the same diameter as the puch pin, drill a hole through it's diameter. This hole shgould be slightly larger than the spring/detent. push the rod through the take down pin holes in the receiver from the left side to the right. Line up the hole in the receiver for the spring and the hole you drilled in the rod. Insert the spring through the hole in the rod into the hole in the receiver. Do the same for the detent. Use a punch to push the detent all the way in and turn the rod which will captivate the sring/detent. Now install the take down pin by pushing the rod out. Bomber |

You say you have the installation tool: 1. Insert the tool from the left to right 2. Line up the hole on the tool with the hole for the spring and detent 3. Drop the spring and detent through the hole of the installation tool into the receiver 4. Use a small diameter punch to depress the spring and detent through the hole on the installation tool 5. Rotate the installation tool 90 degrees 6. Spring and detent are held in place against the solid surface of the installation tool 7. Take your pivot pin and, from right to left, push the installation tool out of the lower receiver (You can try lining up the channel of the pivot pin with the detent but its easier just to push the pin through and rotate it until the detent falls into the channel) 8. Bite your thumb while saying to yourself "That was to easy!" |

Tried that. Can't get the detent pin to compress below the tool. Could this be an issue with the spring either being too long, or the hole needing cleaning out like somebody above posted? Currently the spring sits in the hole (uncompressed) with approx. 2-3mm sticking out. |

I still don't see why folks have troubles with this pin (excluding a debris-filled hole). I just put the spring in, followed by the detent, then take the pin, and while using it to push the detent the rest of the way into the lower sort of "snap" the pin into place. Works every time, easy as pie. |

As I see it, no question is silly. he I can get it to depress, just not below the bottom of the installation tool. Which makes spinning it a bit tough. |

Kind of an odd-ball way, but I have two fingers on my left hand that do not bend - so this works for me. Second post from top - with pics uxb |
