Hello all,
Wanting to install a compensator on my AR15. Is a barrel vise really needed? What torque specs should I use? Last but not least, how do I index the compensator correctly with a crush washer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should use a barrel vise but a receiver block will work if used correctly.  The crush washer will crush so you can index it to where it needs to go.  Make sure you don't over crush the washer meaning, after it's hand tight, don't go past 360'.

John,
That about covers it I guess. Thank you! What should I torque the compensator to, is there a suggested ft lb? Or do I just index past hand tight? Any thread lock needed?

just index past hand tight.

If you wish you can use some loctite.

All mine are still tight, and I use grease on the threads before I install a FS or Fh using either a crush or peel washer.

I cant find the data but I remember reading that a crush was is good upto 1.5 turns.

My barrle vise is two blocks of maple in a vise.

blocks of wood work great, my barrel vice was some scrap pine.
