I'm thinking about buying a standard bushmaster M4 and make some mods to it myself. One thing I want to change is the front sight from a standard A2 to a weaver style gas block/sight base. However, the rifle I'm thinking of buying has a short forearm and I want to change it out for a quad rail free-float mid-length forearm. Will I be able to do this and install the new sight base and gas block forward of where the previous sight was installed? From what it looks like, there are probably some cut outs on the barrel to allow the front sight pins to slide through and lock the A2 sight on. So I guess my forearm would need to be long enough to hide these but I don't know if the gas block has to be stay at the same part of the barrel or what? I hope somebody understands what I'm getting at and can let me know my options if I buy this gun set up as it is. Thanks, DOC |

You will not be able to install the gas block anywhere other than where it is right now - it is aligned to the gas port located in the barrel which allows gas to escape out of the barrel, down the gas tube, to action the BCG back. Moving the gas block/sight is not an option w/o replacing the barrel. What you CAN do, is use a low profile gas block, one that fits under your rail system, and mount the front sight directly to the rail. |

There are a lot of different freefloat rail systems. Different ones need different gas blocks. If you know which one you are going to use, I can suggest the right block to fit under it. Check out my parts page for ideas... |
RRA sells the YHM quad rails. I stock them as well as several different flavors of low profile gas blocks. Most of them are listed on my parts page. |
