I've been looking at getting one of those "multi tool" style barrel wrenches for some time now and I've got a question, maybe two.

On one side they've got the three pins to tighten/loosen the barrel nut, and on the other side there's a whole ring of "teeth". Can these "teeth" be used to tighten the barrel nut? Seems it would make the process less likely to booger up the barrel nut.

Next question: would this multi tool tighten/loosen the barrel nut better than my GI style wench that I'm currently using?

Thanks,
Brian

You can use either side to tighten or loosen the barrel nut. My multi tool only has two pins on one side for free float tubes.I like the GI wrench for use on standard barrel nuts.Mike

I use the GI tool with my torque wrench.  My torque wrench just fits it better.  I use either a DPMS multi-tool or one made by Smith Enterprises with the "tooth" side on the barrel nut, between the three "torques" to get to the next hole for the gas tube.  (If this makes sense )  Just the way I do it.

Cheers,

RS

The multi groved side is for a standard barrel nut. I've broke a pin off of every USGI barrel nut wrench I've owned.
